About a month after I started painting I made the choice to create pieces that are pleasant to look at. This decision was made when I visited an art store with his two young children. The store displayed works by local artists, but some of them were more than a little creepy. Anytime I told my kids that I needed to go to that store, they told me that place scared them because of the paintings on the walls.
I want people to have an emotional reaction to my work, but not find it disturbing.
I don't mind creating something that deals with a darker theme, but I'm always going to crack open a ray of sunshine on people. I do this in my personal life as well. I have a nickname I like to use for people I meet that really shine hope and joy in this world and I seek to embody term as well: Day-brightener. I know so many of them. They make you smile to be around them and leave you feeling good about yourself and the world.
