Heartbreak - You're not falling apart

Updated: May 18, 2021

I created this painting based off of a men’s prayer group that I’m in. I hope this encourages you today. Here’s the story behind this painting:

A friend shared that his wife of 20 years had filed for divorce. She shared that she never really believed in “this Christian thing” and my friend had tried to save the marriage, but she was unwilling to work on it. He was being torn apart by this. I was praying for him and saw a picture of his heart being ripped apart, but then I saw God holding his heart and pushing it back together - healing it and keeping it from falling apart.

I drew a sketch of what I was seeing and then painted the image below. My friend later shared that he was in a support group and the man leading it held his hands out like the hands in the painting and said something like, "Before we get started I think we all need to hold our hands out for the good things that we can receive from such bad times."

I've shared this painting with people who are going through a painful situation and they have always appreciated the idea that the hands are not tearing the heart apart, but holding it together.
